Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall before the Atomic Bombing,....Approx 160 meters from the hypocenter.
This building was completed in Aprol of 1915 under the design and supervision of Czech architect Jan Letzel, capturing the fancy of citizens of it with its caracteristic green dome.
On August 6, 1945, the building was severely damaged and burnt by the first atomic bomb ever used in warfare. Atomic bomb exploded at an altitute of 580 meter approximately 160 meters southeast of the Industrial Promotion Hall instantly killing everyone inside the bulding which was seriously damaged and completely burned out. The Atomic Bomb Dome is a symbol of Hiroshima, conveying to us the horror of nuclear weapons and appealing for world peace. In December 1996, the structure was added to the UNESCO WORLD HERRITAGE LIST as a reminder to the entire world of the horror of the atomic bomb and a symbol of global peace.
